Communication at the Heart of the School (CATHS) is a complete approach from assessment to individual planning and whole class practice.  It recognises the different dynamics of classrooms for children with complex and profound learning needs. CATHS is designed to be flexible providing a shared understanding between education staff, speech and language therapists and families.

It is for children working within the engagement model and the pre-key stage standards 1-3.

CATHS includes:

  • Guidance on formulating an individual plan

  • How to adapt the classroom and implement best practice for individual children
